Milwaukee Public Library developed a plan to expand and create a neighborhood library system housed in modern, user friendly branches

Forest Home Library is one of seven neighborhood libraries built between 1961 and 1971.

Completed in 1966, Forest Home Library is the most distinguished branch library in the system.

Forest Home Library was designed by decorated Milwaukee architects Frederic “Fritz” Von Grossmann, Charles Burroughs, and Robert Van Lanen Their firm, Von Grossmann, Burroughs, and Van Lanen Architects, won multiple design awards for projects all around Milwaukee.


Fritz Von Grossmann founded the firm in 1939 and, once the firm grew large enough, promoted Burroughs and Van Lanen as partners in 1956.

Fritz was very active in both architectural and civic circles as a co-founder of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. For his service to the profession and design excellence, Von Grossman was elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows in 1965 - becoming the 5th architect from the state of Wisconsin to ever receive the honor.
